Happiness is... Extraordinary Exhibits at the Portland Miniature Show

Hours and hours are spent on perfecting these works of art— houses, room boxes, vignettes under domes, structures in small scales, and much more. Many are years in the making! Take your time, bring your camera and vote for your favorites on Saturday. Prizes are awarded Sunday morning.  Extraordinary exhibits are sure to spark your own creativity!

Want to bring one or more exhibits to the Portland Miniature Show?  The Registration Form is at the right. After downloading and filling in the information, save the form to your computer.  You may then mail through the Post Office or email directly to Pat.  Whatever works for you. Deadline is October 1, 2019. Sorry, no exceptions.

Bring your exhibits to the Monarch Hotel any time after 1:00 pm on Friday, October 4, until 7:00 pm.  OR, you can bring it Saturday morning, October 5, between 8:00 am and 9:30 am.  Everything must be in place when the doors open at 10 am. 

Attendees will be voting all day Saturday for their favorites.  Ribbons and cash prizes are awarded Sunday morning when the doors open again at 10 am.  The cash prize is called "mini-bucks" which can be used only on Sunday at the Portland Miniature Show.  Dealers will accept them like cash. Exhibits need to be picked up on Sunday at or shortly after 4:00 p.m. when the show closes.

​An 1800's one room schoolhouse, the backbone of American Education.

Palm Springs Mid-Century Modern Vacation Home - Kathy and Darrell Hall
​Scratch built 1/12 scale Mid-Century Modern vacation home in the style of George Alexander, dreamer and builder, Palm Springs.  Truly a getaway designed for sunshine and leisurely living.  Notice its characteristic simple lines, indoor-outdoor living plan, and use of postwar building materials.  Butterfly roof peeks over private landscaped pool-yard.

Amazing Mid-century Modern Chairs - Darrell & Kathy Hall
​This Mid-century modern house celebrates classic 20th century chair designs, including chairs by Frank Lloyd Wright, Ray and Charles Eames, and Charles MacKintosh.  Rare mini-chairs highlight each room.

​An electrified, three-story lighthouse, made from a kit.  All furnishings and equipment researched to represent items that would have been located in a "bachelor" lightkeeper's home/office in New England in the year 1890.

Malin's Restaurant

​Malin and her grandfather have combined their building talents to assemble a two-story 1:12 scale dollhouse.  When you see it, you will guess what Malin's favorite colors are!  Together she and grandma have stitched and glued bedding, rugs, and curtains.  Malin has furnished her dollhouse like a restaurant.  So stop by and enjoy a mini-bite at this diner.

Aaron's Mountain Cabin

Aaron and Granddad have been building a 1:12 scale mini-mountain log cabin to remember a remarkable daytrip to Mount Rainier National Park.  Aaron built log furniture for his cabin.  Grandma showed him how to stitch bedcovers on her sewing machine.  Aaron is ready to move in, but, wait, somebody else got there first.  Who could that be?  Come see.

World War II: Norway Under Enemy Control -- Resistance Fights Back
Ben Hall, age 12

​Ben's ancestors took part in Norway Resistance's clandestine activities during World War II.  While their homeland struggled under foreign occupation, brave men, women and children secretly defended their country.  Can you find spies scoping out enemy bases?  Saboteurs about to interrupt the export of valuable iron ore?  Watch how Ben's Lego army fights back.
